Lobster: Writing App

Terms of Service

Lobster: Writing App (macOS · iOS · iPadOS)

  • Effective: 16 September 2026
  • Last revised: 16 September 2026

1. Purpose and parties

These terms govern use of Lobster: Writing App ("the app"), published by RoyWorkx ("the developer"). Downloading and using the app means accepting these terms.

These terms are concluded between you and the developer only — Apple is not a party to them.

The app is distributed only through the Apple App Store, so Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions apply alongside these terms, and these terms do not conflict with them. Where the two do conflict, Apple's terms take precedence.

2. Licence

The developer grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, and only as permitted by Apple's Usage Rules.

Use through Family Sharing and volume purchasing is permitted.

You agree not to:

  1. copy, distribute, rent, sell or sub-license the app;
  2. decompile, disassemble or reverse-engineer it, except where law expressly permits;
  3. circumvent its protections or its purchase verification;
  4. use the app or any part of it to build a competing product.

Copyright in the app and everything bundled with it — fonts, export styles, editor themes, the essay workbook and the in-app guide — belongs to the developer or the respective rights holders. These terms transfer none of it.

3. What you write

Everything you write in the app is yours.

  • The developer claims no rights in your manuscripts.
  • The developer does not hold and cannot see your manuscripts. The app has no server (see the Privacy Policy).
  • There is no restriction on using, publishing or selling what you produce with the app.
  • You may insert the bundled essay workbook into your own projects and work in it. Reproducing or distributing the workbook itself as a separate work is not permitted under §2.

4. The trial

  • The app runs with every feature for five days after installation. No payment details are taken.
  • The trial is counted per device — five days each on Mac, iPhone and iPad.
  • When it ends, only editing locks. These stay open:
  • opening, reading and searching what you wrote;
  • exporting to PDF, DOCX, ePub, HTML and Text;
  • copying and printing;
  • the whole Settings window and the dashboard.
  • Nothing you wrote is deleted when the trial ends.

5. Purchase

  • The app is a non-consumable in-app purchase — a single payment. It is not a subscription and does not renew.
  • The price in the Korean App Store is ₩59,000; elsewhere Apple's tier for that price applies. Prices may change, and anyone who has already bought is never charged again.
  • The purchase is offered as Universal Purchase: one purchase opens Mac, iPhone and iPad on the same Apple Account.
  • If you change device, use "Restore Purchases" in the app. Restoring does not work while signed in to a different Apple Account from the one that bought it.

6. Refunds

Payment and refunds are handled by Apple. The developer has no access to your payment method and cannot issue a refund directly. Request refunds through Apple:

  • https://support.apple.com/HT204084

If a refund is granted, the app returns to its locked state — reading and exporting only.

7. Your responsibility — backups

Keeping your manuscript safe is ultimately yours to do.

The app makes automatic backups (hourly, daily, weekly), keeps saved versions and a trash, but all of those live on the same device. None of them survives a lost, stolen, broken or corrupted machine.

  • Please also run a whole-disk backup such as Time Machine.
  • The app's automatic backups carry your writing only — not photos, recordings or other attachments.
  • The password-lock password cannot be recovered. If you forget it, the developer cannot help either.

8. Changes to the app, and end of support

  • The developer may add, change or remove features. Material changes that disadvantage you will be announced in advance.
  • The developer may stop distributing or updating the app. Even then an installed copy keeps working, and your manuscripts stay on your device.
  • Changes to Apple's operating systems may break parts of the app. The developer will respond within reason but does not guarantee operation on any particular OS version.

9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The app is provided as is. The developer does not warrant that it will run without error or that it fits any particular purpose.

The developer is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages (loss of data, loss of business, lost profits) arising from use of the app. The developer's total liability will not exceed what you actually paid for the app.

These limits do not apply to damage caused by the developer's wilful misconduct or gross negligence, nor to death or personal injury. Where mandatory consumer law gives you more than this clause does, that law prevails.

10. Apple-specific terms

Set out as Apple's Minimum Terms require:

  1. Acknowledgement — these terms are between you and the developer, not Apple (§1 says the same).
  2. Scope of licence — a non-transferable licence; use through Family Sharing and volume purchasing is permitted (§2).
  3. Maintenance and support — the developer alone is responsible for maintaining and supporting the app. Apple has no obligation whatsoever to furnish any maintenance or support services.
  4. Warranty — the developer is solely responsible for any product warranties. If the app fails to conform to any warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation at all, and any further claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to a failure to conform are the developer's responsibility.
  5. Product claims — the developer, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the app, including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.
  6. Intellectual property — in the event of a third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual property rights, the developer alone is responsible for its investigation, defence, settlement and discharge.
  7. Legal compliance — you represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  8. Developer contact — given in §13. Send any question or complaint about the app there.
  9. Third-party terms — you must comply with applicable third-party terms when using the app. For this app those are Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions and the iCloud Terms of Service.
  10. Third-party beneficiary — Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and, on your acceptance, have the right to enforce them against you directly.

11. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. The parties will try to settle any dispute in good faith; failing that, the courts determined by the Korean Civil Procedure Act have jurisdiction (a consumer may bring proceedings in the court for their own address).

If you are a consumer outside Korea, nothing in this clause limits the mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in.

12. Changes to these terms

The developer may change these terms and will post the change and its effective date on this page. Changes that disadvantage you will be posted 30 days before they take effect.

13. Contact

Send any question or complaint about the app here.
